Disability and Transport

1. Around one fifth of disabled people report having difficulties in accessing transport which are related to their impairment or disability.
2. Difficulty in accessing transport will impact on ability to engage in social, leisure and employment activities.
3. We have an aging population.

What puts people off traveling?

1. Attitude of transport staff towards those who need more time or assistance
2. Barriers creating difficulties at entry points or discomfort while traveling
3. Connectivity – the lack of cohesion between providers and difficulty in moving between different parts of the journey

What would make people feel more comfortable?

1. Confidence in consistent level of service
2. Better, and easier access to, information
3. Knowing what assistance they can/can’t expect
4. Feeling confident that they know what is going on
5. Feeling confident about the next stage of the journey
