1. Principle One:Equitable Use
The design is useful and marketable to people with diverse abilities.

GUIDELINES

  1. Provide the same means of use for all users:identical whenever possible; equivalent when not.
  2. Avoid segregating or stigmatizing any users.
  3. Provisions for privacy, security, and safety should be equally available to all users.

Inclusive Libraries - A step towards making libraries disabled friendly

The need to access libraries is not one that we need to contend. Libraries provide us with a vast resource of knowledge whereby a person can access books, periodicals, newspapers, journals, etc. Today with the advent of digital libraries, collections are stored in digital formats and accessible by computers, also.

Persons with disabilities should also have access to both that is physical libraries as well as digital libraries.

Libraries are also a point of access whereby resources can be pooled and used by a large cross-section of the society. Therefore, making libraries inclusive is important for the growth of India’s population. Read more »

Increasing awareness among New Generation

Have you ever seen a group of children mocking the way a person with a disability walks? Have you ever overheard a child call a person with a disability a disparaging name? When children don’t understand why a person is different, they often make fun of him or her.
It is important for people to understand that people with disabilities are more alike than different. For children, this is especially important because attitudes develop during childhood by watching and listening to peers, teachers and family. Schools, clubs and youth groups are ideal places to increase knowledge about people with disabilities and to foster positive attitudes about them. Read more »
